Philip Newstead
My career in mind-body health has spanned over 18 years since I trained as a psychotherapist and counselor. I began bodywork in 1989 in Kinesiology, initially as a "hobby" whilst still pursuing a full-time career in magazine publishing & printing. Following 3 bouts of redundancy in 10 years, I retrained as a therapeutic masseur, gaining an ITEC diploma in 1995.I then trained with the Academy of On-Site Massage uk later that year. Subsequently taking further qualification trainings during the next 5 years, in Shiatsu, Tuina & Anma (all Oriental Acupressure therapies). In 1997 I was invited to join the Academy as a tutor. In addition to teaching AOSM courses, I have taught Baby Massage classes and continue to teach Parenting Skills & Communication classes. In 2001, I decided to further my bodywork skills and knowledge by flying to USA several times to take a professional training in Structural Integration (a scientifically validated system of deep tissue body work and movement education developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf in USA in the late 1950’s). I qualified as a practitioner in Structural Integration in 2003, via Tom Myers’ "Kinesis" school in USA. Nowadays my portfolio of work revolves around 2 days a week out "in the workplace" as an OSM practitioner; 2 days a week in clinic as a Structural Integration practitioner; several weekends throughout each year as an AOSM tutor; several evenings per school term as a Parenting Skills Facilitator.
