My working career began in Pharmaceutical Sciences. However, I soon realised that Complementary Therapies was where I wanted to be and was most suited.
After studying for a year to get a Diploma in Holistic Therapies, I went on to train in other therapies and expand my range of treatments.
At the beginning of 2005 I trained with Academy of On Site Massage and immediately knew that this was where my passion was, providing a fantastic treatment to people where they are generally most stressed – at work!
Initially I worked for a number of On Site Massage companies providing massage in the workplace. By working in many different environments, from fast paced call centres to small quiet offices, as well as lots of exhibitions and events, I have built an understanding of the best way to incorporate therapies into the workplace.
In early 2011, I was invited to become a tutor with AOSM. All tutors are required to have trained with AOSM, have a minimum 2 years 'in the field' and hold a recognised teaching qualification. And so set about gaining my teaching qualification.
In house training followed to ensure the Academy high standards are met. This began with shadowing existing tutors then gradually teaching the various sections under the watchful eye of the tutor. I worked with each of the tutors at various stages which meant I met the whole team and received thorough training. In 2012 I became a fully fledged tutor and haven't looked back since.
I have always wanted to open my own Therapy Centre with rooms available from where other practitioners could work. I had a very clear picture in my mind of the type of building I was looking for and how it would look and was delighted when I found a commercial property to rent about two minutes walk from home. It has all the charm and character I had dreamt of…. high beamed ceilings, lovely brickwork and plenty of parking!
I so I embarked on a new journey which involved securing planning permission for change of use, finding reputable tradesmen to do the internal work and working my way through a never ending list of what I needed to buy and organise in order to have a fully equipped clinic!
I finally signed the lease, got everything ready to open and am now happily running a beautiful clinic that is also used as the teaching venue for the Academy. Due to the demands of running a busy clinic, I no longer teach with AOSM. However, my relationship with AOSM remains and I am now an external examiner for the Seated Acupressure Diploma.
Life is good!
